Horizon Europe - EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation
Horizon Europe is the European Union's ninth research framework programme and the world's largest single funding programme for research and innovation. It aims to build a knowledge- and innovation-based society and a competitive economy while contributing to sustainable development.
Horizon Europe contributes to the implementation of the European Commission's political guidelines. It plays a particularly important role in the digital and green transitions.
Compared to the predecessor programme Horizon 2020, there is a lot of continuity in Horizon Europe. What is new is that the European Innovation Council (EIC) has been institutionalised. Its aim is to promote innovations that create new markets. The EIC Accelerator is now a funding instrument for SMEs and disruptive innovations, including start-ups.
In addition, a ‘strategic planning process’ and ‘missions’ were introduced for the first time with Horizon Europe.
